Mario Kart: DF Beta

"As a beta version, it's good"

date: August 2, 2009

The concept is very accurate, but sometimes I have to do two laps to count it as one. If the laps work like I am led to think they do, this is a great way to prevent such glitch shorcuts as found in Mario Kart Wii. The track seems well thought out but two specific turns pose a major problem with how sharp they are. The second of these two might present a problem with the lap count along with how I handle it. I await the fianl version.

Warzone Tower Defense

"This game is excellent!"

date: June 30, 2009

First off, great job! I remember Xeno Tactic when I play this, and for me, that's a good thing. Somewhat of an improvement over Xeno Tactic is that both upgrading and building take no time. I've played predominately on quick cash mode and was able to construct great mazes of cannons or Plasma cannons. The different play styles and ability to turn off flyers really contributes because EVERYONE has trouble with the flyers.

On difficulty, the game is fairly straightforward: Build towers and walls to prevent enemies from reaching the main tower. Rather than repeat the instructions (read them, they help), I am going to list things I liked and issues:
+simple
+/-not incredibly involved
+Nukes are reasonably priced
+towers are well balanced (except Plasma cannons, they're overpowered)
+/-upgrades double in everything, including cost
+different play modes allow for hours of varying play
-VERY repetitive
-ground enemies can't be hit by missiles (nice balancing though)
-Pulse emitter is too weak due to its low range and less than needed damage

All in all, try to make Accelerated mode a seperate option and transfer some power from the Plasma cannon to the Pulse emitter, and please give us a ground missile upgrade.

On actual gameplay, it is a very versatile game as hinted last section. Maybe the poor speed I experienced was due to lag. If possible, add a quality setting. The cannons are very good all rounded towers and, besides Plasma cannons, should be the main source of offence. The machine guns best serve as fences from what I experience. AA Missiles are required if not playing ground only, but are very powerful (give us a ground missile upgrade!). Therefore, flak cannons seem underpowered but are like machine guns in their use, simply more limited. For players, this is not meant to be a guide. For the author, this is meant to be a sort of field report on what I observe.

To summarize the past two thousand characters: This amazing game reminds me of Xeno Tactic, and all its fans should like this. The difficulty seems to fall into its place and can be changed to fit the player. The modes not only atler difficulty but also provide options for those strategic, conservative, and impaitient. Certain towers are clearly better than others *coughplasmacannonscough*, but for the most part are well balanced. Nukes work well and cost what they seem they should. A great tower defence that allows the player to make the path. It simply needs traps, but those can wait.

*All requests in this review are suggestions, not demands as I cannot physically demand anything from a game that the author will not give. Please give consideration, but alter at your own discretion.

***/!\ THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR PLAYERS!***
Again, if you are not on a ground only map, YOU MUST USE MISSILES!

Thank you for your time, thardus out.

There were cheese its, by default making it good. I see that this might be based on personal experience. Strange how someone takes two years to get to level thirty. I'm making an experience curve chart on notepad and it takes around two billion exp just to get to level 19.

MKDD- Rainbow Road

I'm rather suspicious of your work. I hear this as the exact same as Double Dash's version. Maybe you are really good at doing really minor things to adjust. Maybe this is the same. I disagree that this has the largest difference. I think your SSBB- Vs. Petey Piranha had the biggest difference. I just listened to this and the original as side by side as I could get them. Besides that I couldn't synchronize them perfectly, I didn't hear a single difference. It's a perfect copy unless there's something I'm missing.

Rainbow Road Remake

"It's not that bad I suppose"

date: August 22, 2009

1:08 hurt badly! I think it's a trumpet in the original (I'm probably wrong), I play trumpet myself, and that was incredibly painful. But I'm not nearly enough of a jerk to rate 0 for that. It comes back at 3:18 too... but I'm still not going to rate 0. It's a great remix (PAIN!!!), but please bring the specified parts down. The bass is great throughout, and I suppose it compensates for the extremely high parts. 0:12 makes this a 10 from me, despite the banshee used twice. The rest of the song is well done, but I just want to get this to you if nothing else: Please bring down 1:08 and 3:18.

Author's Response:

Haha, I would if it wasn't a song made 2 years ago XD..

But the original has an Electric Guitar in it, no Trumpets ^^!

Thanks for leaving a comment though :)

"I got what I clicked for"

The bass is definitely there. I can hear it fine, but I listened to the original beforehand. Certain places, the bass stands out more than it does in other places. In opposite situations, the bass can't be heard at all, and that's where a problem comes. Besides the bass, my only complaint is around 1:31 the instrument chosen does not go down 2 steps. I know it's a rock remix, but that decent has to happen. Again, knowing it's rock, the instruments seem logically picked, not that I'm 100% confident in figuring out which they are. Perhaps more contrast so I'm not constantly hearing what I think are two guitars and a drum set. I think it's a good piece, clearly labeled, but could do with some work.
